Paterson Scholarship

Eligibility

The Paterson Scholarship is open annually to Australian citizens who are enrolled in their first year of an undergraduate degree and undertaking an engineering major or breadth sequence that will lead to the Master of Engineering.

Value

This generous scholarship is valued at approximately $4,000 a year for the duration of the recipient’s undergraduate degree and subsequent Master of Engineering. The Master of Engineering must be taken immediately after completion of their undergraduate degree.

Description

Bob Paterson, BE (Civil) and his wife, Helen, established scholarships to provide significant ongoing support to engineering students who are in financial need or otherwise disadvantaged and have demonstrated academic merit in year 12 of secondary education.

Helen and I were encouraged to establish a scholarship program after the experience of a distant relative who received financial support to complete his studies as an adult. He was able to achieve his dream of becoming an engineer. It highlighted to us that there are many students who have the potential to be talented engineers but lack the financial resources and/or family support to continue their education. We hope that through this scholarship we can help some of those students fulfil their potential.

Selection criteria

Eligible students are required to demonstrate a desire to pursue a career in engineering in their application and satisfy at least two of the following criteria:

  • Financial need
  • Disadvantage
  • Previous academic merit
