What's involved?

Many of our student ambassadors join the program with the intention of giving back and assisting students who find themselves in a situation they once experienced.

As a Student Ambassador, we encourage you to share your experiences and help new students grasp their potential. This may involve participating in events such as speaker panels, contributing to video productions, and becoming an influencer on our social media channels. Your role as a Student Ambassador includes assisting with:

  • Open Day
  • Creating student profiles (including photographs) for use in web and print advertising
  • Optional tours of the faculty and/or university

Ambassadors play a crucial role in communicating their experiences to prospective students, sharing insights into why they chose their course, what to expect during studies, how to transition into life at Melbourne, and how to best prepare for graduate study.

You can contribute to various content, such as:

Short videos: Share your course choice, the reasons behind it, and your career plans. You can film these on your phone or via Zoom, and we can guide you on what to say.

Photoshoots: Showcase the campus as the heart of the University of Melbourne, highlighting facilities, study spaces, and coffee spots. While professional photographers are available, we also appreciate your own shots and candid moments for our social channels.

Quotes and stories: Write a blog-style post about your university experience, involvement in student clubs, or completed internships. Similar stories can be found on the Student Life page or our Graduate Stories.

These videos and written stories are excellent opportunities to demonstrate your communication skills and showcase professional experience. You have a say in the editorial process, and we encourage you to share these stories on your network, emphasizing your unique voice. We can assist you in the writing process.

As part of the program, our Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology ambassadors participate in formal leadership training and communication courses alongside ambassadors from other academic divisions.

The position requires a minimum time commitment of approximately 30 hours (or 6 events/activities) across the year.

Girl Power

If you identify as female or female-identifying, you also have the chance to be a mentor in our Girl Power in Engineering and IT program. This program supports high school students interested in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, contributing to gender parity in these disciplines. If interested, you can notify us at the beginning of the program.

This is a volunteer based opportunity designed to assist students in gaining work experience and valuable leadership and marketing skills.
